About John Kavanaugh

Hello,

I grew up in Clay, Louisiana and attended Clay UMC from a young child.  I graduated from Quitman High School in 1997.  I graduated Louisiana Tech University in the Fall of 2001.  While at Louisiana Tech, I went to the Wesley Foundation and got to go on mission trips to Haiti, Hondourus, and Toronto, Canada.  I gradually felt a call to ministry and started speaking in local churches and doing youth ministry.  After subbing and teaching in the school system, I felt called to full time ministry.  I served two years at Beulah United Methodist Church near Calhoun, LA.   Around that time, I met my future wife Rebecca Batterton.  I started seminary at Asbury Theological Seminary in the Fall of 2005 and Rebeccca and I got married on January 21st, 2006.  We spent about 3 years going to school and working.  We returned to Louisiana to serve at First UMC Tallulah in late August of 2008.  I graduated from Asbury doing online classes in Decenber 2008.  Rebecca and I had our first child on February 2nd 2009.  We named her "Hannah" which means "God is Gracious!"  Today, we are growing as parents and the calling God has put before us.
